  • Modern LED lights provide substantial advantages over traditional lighting like high pressure sodium, metal halide, and fluorescent tubes, particularly in energy consumption and longevity.

Heat is the major factor affecting LED longevity and light output.  Specified premium bonding materials (for example nanotube and thermal glue technology) used to attach LED’s to the light main body can be up to 6 times more conductive than cheaper and commonly used materials and are an influence on the effectiveness of the light design in drawing heat up and away from the LED chips.  Utilising best practice thermal design principles, our LED high bay range operates measurably cooler than our competitors – by up to 10 degrees C. Inferior lights use cheaper and less conductive materials, smaller and cheaper heat sinks.

You can judge for yourself just by observing the relative surface area of the metal heat dissipation fins on any light versus another – the more heat conductive surface for a given wattage light, the longer lasting the product, and the less reduction in light output over the term of service life.

Retention of lumen performance over time is critical in achieving OH&S standards compliance. Australian Standard AS1680 mandates the light levels in industrial and commercial environments, and non-conformance to this standard will be a factor in determining the consequences of OH&S events.

Unlike poorly designed high bays, including “UFO” or “Flying Disc” types, we separate the power supply from the main body to generate cross-flow ventilation.  Other designs incorporate the power supply together to save cost but risk the life and performance of the power supply as it’s constantly exposed to higher operating temperatures. “UFO” or “Flying Disc” types by design simply cannot have sufficient heat sink area and are unproven in long life performance, especially in high ambient temperature environments.
